Cipher shows up to Dom's house unexpectedly in a prototype DeLorean.

It's little surprise the tech-savvy hacker would have such a sleek car. 

Speaking with Collider, director Louis Letterier said the addition of the DeLorean, made famous in Universal's time-traveling "Back to the Future" franchise, was also supposed to be a nod to fan lore.

After "The Fast Saga" went to space in "F9," many wondered how they could top that. 

"They thought that after going to space, we're going to do time travel," Leterrier told Collider of real-life rumors inspiring Cipher's car in "Fast X." "I was like, 'Oh, I will have people go crazy by having the DeLorean pull up with shoes that look like futuristic shoes come out."
